Abstract A selective method for the detection of osmium by flame atomic emission
spectrometry is described. The method is based on extracting osmium tetroxide into MIBK, at
pH 2.1–9.5, and aspirating the extract into a nitrous oxide-acetylene flame. By this procedure
the effect of common interferences in atomic emission spectrometric determination of
osmium has been eliminated or minimized.
