A spectrophotometric reaction rate method for the determination of molybdenum is
described, based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of nile blue by hydrogen peroxide.
The decrease in absorbance of nile blue with time from 0.5 to 4 min at 590 nm is
proportional to the concentration of Mo (VI) over the range 0.022-1000 mu g/mL. The limit of
detection of molybdenum (VI) is 0.008 mu g/mL. The precision and the effect of more than
